Game On: New York City Bars Get into Summer Spirit With Sports Teams

Several city watering holes are giving regulars a chance to ditch the bar stool and get out on the field, sponsoring sports teams that let customers and staff bond through a cocktail of athletic competition — and a few cold ones after the game.

Regardless, we can talk about a much more "gemütlichkeit" experience in the East Village, courtesy of ZUM SCHNEIDER Biergarten. It's not an outdoor "garten", but after a litre mass you might not notice, with its large windows, rustic long tables, and decorative trees winding through the space. You couldn't be in a more joyous, friendly, spirited place for the love of beer and happiness! (Not until Spaten and Disneyworld merge.)

(…) New York’s drinking zeitgeist has passed, in succession, from the Belle Epoque-ish wine bar to the pre-crash Jazz Age cocktail lounge, to the Weimar-flavored biergarten, with its whiffs of hyperinflation and the Munich Beer Hall Putsch. Of course, it is also true that people like beer and will tend to drink it in large amounts, while sitting outside at long, communal tables in the sun.
