German fans celebrate World Cup win against Argentina

Jubilant German fans who watched the tense match at watering holes around New York City erupted in celebration of a victory that put Deutschland above all others in the 203-team worldwide tournament.
“Awesome!” said Mario Fontaine, an actor from Wiesbaden, Germany, who watched his countrymen lift the gilded championship trophy at Zum Schneider, a German restaurant in the East Village. (Full article)

The German bar Zum Schneider’s in the East Village relocated to a bigger outdoor space on East 23rd St., with the owners welcoming hundreds of fans for both teams.
Chants of “U.S.A.!” were sometimes drowned out by shouts of “Deutschland!” in the now-friendly rivalry.
