Zum Schneider opened its Bavarian doors 24 years ago out of interest to establish a traditional German Biergarten in Manhattan, East Village. The owner, Sylvester Schneider felt homesick and longed for his traditional German beer, thus sparking the idea to establish Zum Schneider.

This Bavarian indoor Biergarten was home to traditional German Biergarten furniture, authentic food, quality service, and exclusive beers from Bavaria and Germany served by German speaking staff.

Zum Schneider guarantees a genuine German experience. Authenticity and culture are the forces behind the events, shows and festivals they host for their customers all year round at their popup locations.

Zum Schneider expanded in 2012, and opened its second location in Montauk, Long Island.

Zum Schneider also was the sole operator and organizer of the Open Air screenings during the world cup 2014, which sparked the debut of Oktoberfest “Munich on the East River” and numerous 4th of July events “The Big Bang on the East River” .

The Zum Schneider restaurant location had to close their doors in 2020 but Sylvester Schneider is planning to open a new location in 2025.

In the meantime, Sylvester Schneider & team are continuing with Event Pop-Ups like their famous Oktoberfest tent “Munich in Brooklyn”.

I missed summers in the beergarden with friends, family and people of all kinds, coming together to relax and celebrate life. Embracing those yearnings, I created Zum Schneider.
