by Rachel Tucker
Gather your drinking buddies and hit seven bars in the East Village, with a stop for pork along the way.
Ex in the City:
Sylvester Schneider kam aus Bayern nach New York, um Musiker zu werden, heute betreibt er den beliebtesten Biergarten der Stadt – in einer Kneipe
Everyday is Oktoberfest at Zum Schneider. This Bavarian bierhaus and German restaurant boasts a festive atmosphere with an impressive selection of beer. Their outdoor seating can get crowded very quickly depending on the day (they hold a lot of events) so try and get there early.
Pouring beer is more than getting the liquid from one vessel to another: it's an art form, as well as a science that has its own methodologies, constants, and variables.

(…) New York’s drinking zeitgeist has passed, in succession, from the Belle Epoque-ish wine bar to the pre-crash Jazz Age cocktail lounge, to the Weimar-flavored biergarten, with its whiffs of hyperinflation and the Munich Beer Hall Putsch.
